The day an old woman decided to go for a walk in summer

I’ve got a bit more of the city done. It now has a bookshop, a bikeshop and most importantly a pub! I’ll probably be changing a round a few trees, because at the moment they are just copied and pasted and it’s really annoying me. But I’ve got to get other things done first.

I also have properly drawn the first character. Welcome Martha! I sent her on a little walk so she can familiarise herself with the town a little.

Progress

By the end of the week I wanted to have drawn all the elements for the animation so I would have 2 weeks to animate everything and a week for sound + the last few day before hand in for last min changes…. At the moment I’m way way way behind scedule. Here is where I’m at now:

The city has grown ever so slightly but this is only about 1/6 of the whole city.

I have also created a shitty version of the city to see if I can get the timing right for characters interacting with eachother but also being at the right place at the right time… This also helps to figure out how long the whole piece will be overall. At the moment I don’t think more than 3 min.

Never ending city

Right, I didn’t realise how long ago it was that I talked about the digi project. I did mention the idea with the screens already in the last post, but I have developed it further since. So here is what I’m actually working on now.

While at the beginning I was looking at having several screens set up as a wall of screen I’m now arranging them in a circle. The screens will face outwards, so that you can only see some of the animation, never all of it.

The animation will be a scene of a city and the people who live in it. One can either stay on one side of the screens and look at a certain part of the city, beeing the nosey neighbour, or one can follow a character around.

I’ve decided to show it on 6 screens. The picture below shows a basic setup of the whole city. The characters can walk from one season to the next or stay in one place.

Every character experiences time diffently. While some might go through a major change others will “just” experiance one thing. I’ve still got to develop all of the characters but here are some ideas of what I have in mind: There’ll be a boy who’s gonna make and sell lemonade in the summer section. The lemons to make it with have fallen out of an old ladies shopping basket, who was chased by a dog, who so desperatly wanted the sausages hanging out of the basket. The old lady walks past a bank later on. Someone dressed in black is robbing the bank. He/She runs out only to get hit by the old lady with her cane. Rober can escape.

I want to include extra charaters and events too. E.g. a rocket or ufo landing in a part of the city. A wizard going in to The Leaky Cauldron. The mukklas from Peterson and Findus, Where is wally, E.T bicycle sceen, Hand from Adams family…
